Time just seems to fly, when you reach forty. Birthdays seem to come each month or two. I look into the mirror and say, "Lordy... Boy, look at what the years have done to you!" The lean and hungry look is gone forever. The cocky walk has fallen by the way... The flirting with the girls has lost it's savor. And I'm an older, wiser man today. The days of raising hell, are but a memory- No way I'd try to top a bronc or bull. I'm satisfied to have a roof for shelter, A suit of clothes, and my old belly full. My riggin' bag has now become a briefcase... My pickup seat no longer is my bed. And I guess it is a mighty rare occasion- That I sleep without a pillow 'neath my head. The ties I once despised are my apparel, Dress westerns are the clothing that I wear... Some times my mind goes drifting to the eighties, And I find myself just wishing I was there. Now, do I mourn the years as they are passing? When I consider, I can't say I do... For every trail, and every rash decision- Have served to make me, "me", and that is true. |

Ah Cowboy....another year almost over? The years have been good to you John. You have so many more great stories to tell us. Don't mourn those years m'friend...cherish them... and continue to share the stories of your life here. ~Hugs & Smiles, Nancy~ |

Absolutely wonderful. You cannot take back what made you who you are. Our pasts shape us for the future, and make us who we are today!! I love how you expressed this!! I have a question, have you read the book series your name suggests??? |
