Before Church

Awaking early from a sleep
that leaves the weight of my body
momentarily conformed
within the posture-perfect mattress,
I rise and tiptoe through the dark,
briefly conscious
that my toes are behaving shamelessly
with the carpet.
Outdoors,
the exposed deck slips around a corner of the house
and screens itself.
Sparsely clothed beneath a quilt
I sip green tea and repeat the ritual
of trying to imagine
'the voice of the Lord
walking in the garden'.

That's the way
to pull me in...give your poem
some tactile feel.

Well done, Sir!

Your imagery here Robert is fantastic..
you took me there to the garden..
I could taste the green tea.
Well done!

I enjoyed each line of this.  Love the toes and the carpet.

Bob - I had to go find your writings - and yes, oh yes, I remember your ease of words.
Thanks again.   hugs, Chris

I enjoyed every word of this and could see you in the garden with your green tea!

A great bit of writing ... hugs, Marti

This is just beautiful!
One of my favorite hymns is "In the Garden" by C. Austin Miles... "and He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own..."
I sing it alot while trying to imagine The Lord being so near to me. Now I'll have a poem that will remind me of it, too
Thank you...
