I live within myself

They found her there and her face
Had on the expression of someone surprised
And scared;
Well, as scared, as anyone who falls asleep reading a book, can be.
He awoke; more scared, for he had no book
And wouldn’t know where to find one if given the chance.

The adults with questioning looks,
But inner laughs, looked down

For they knew innocent children when they saw them.

She closed the book as though to draw attention to it.
He quickly rose and made his exit.
Leaving her to fumble with words, explanations
And apologies that now seemed to be written
On the cover of the book
As she stared intently down at it.
Funny how even an implied non-happening event
Can bring a blush to a girl’s face.

The adults finally shooed the girl home
And broke up and after she slipped quietly out the door
Laughed and waved their hands as they separated
Toward chores
Remembering and reminiscing of times of play,
Innocence
and constant bewilderment.

Wonderful write and a lesson of life.
If all could react like this, recognizing innocence when it's there.

Greatly enjoyed.

Oh my goodness ... you took me WAY back in time to singing a song by The Everly Brothers, called "Wake Up Little Susie".

Excellent reminder that circumstances are not all they appear~

How wonderfully you captured the dreaded parents coming home, finding the couple asleep and thus the glow of what could have been. Excellent.

Enjoyed this story well written. Wonder what book it was? Maybe collection of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's works. *S* You're a fan too right?

;-D  Yes I am, PK, most definitely!
Coleridge - what a wonderful book to dream to..

And thank you everyone for your kind replies.  It's much appreciated.
