The Knowing Of

I can't make it out
the handwriting on the wall
unrecognizable,
each scrawl

Those days have come and gone
yet I am invaded by thought...
what happens now, after then
who will I call
when I am the only one
left behind

who will I confide in
reflect with,
explain my movements to

who will see my progress
and cheer me on

I searched for a four leaf clover yesterday,
but only found weeds among the blossoms
filling in the gaps not unlike my daily trials
of broken promises, of silent need.

I wander my words this morning,
disorganized from sleep loss
dreams not forthcoming, eyes tired
and dazed by the mist that veils.

I miss the little things that made me reach
for ribbons to tie up my hair,
to brighten my face allowing eyes to shine
and lips to curve upward,
dimples to show...

I miss the morning good-byes,
the I'll-return-kisses
the knowing of later
and the looking forward of.

I search my mind for the last of words,
those of endearment that have escaped usage
as I close my eyes, begin this day
and fall back in time.

M

Lovely poem, though sad...I wish we could take all those times, and roll them up into a little reminder blanket, reminding us, to savor each moment, as if it were the best ever.

Love to you, Lee J.

weeds among the blossoms,
loved those lines...........

yes to the weeds
set them free
rejoice with them
be one with them
and dance freely

I too wish I could send you four leaf clovers dear Maureen.
Can I send you cyber hugs instead?

Soon...soon you will tie up your hair with those ribbons and smile again..
