Little Beggars of Tan My and Hue What is this glistening before my eyes, but mere time. Immortal at that age, time spent by millionaires of time… Yet what is it I see in their eyes, little eyes, wide-open eyes, clueless to their crime, borne into the depth of lies. Simple begging eyes, searching for food, not love. Not a home, but only a place to hold onto a single dove… Foreign language handed them their borrowed name. A nature learned by simple children of Tan My, and Hue. They are in a complex struggle with time, but I am not to blame. Why do I have tears for these tiny little beggars, and feel ashamed? Only a few weeks ago, a few days before this, I was at my swimming hole, had my fishing pole, or riding the surf at high tide... I have no more time for graduation, or driving the strip, not now. Not with these beggars at my side… They have stolen my heart, and my millions stored up in seconds, and hours, and years… Oh God, I pray, stop these free flowing tears…. My sea bag cannot contain them all, and how would I ever choose? What laws would forbid, and which of these societies would loose? Where would I keep them and how would I know what to do? My hands tied, tape across my youthful words, listening only not to abuse. These tiny little beggars of Tan My and Hue lost in an instant of my time. Homeless, no one to hold them each night, only desperation and crime. I remember their faces, and grungy little smiles. Their tattered clothes they had worn for years and hundreds of miles… Each day when my thoughts have time I see them again, and again. I smile, and for a second my eyes tear, and I grin. I gave them my millions in time, chocolate bars, and chewing gum, those little beggars of Tan My and Hue. God willing, I’ll think of you each night, forever, when I pray… As you were then, little beggars of Tan My and Hue. |

Oh my JL...this brought back memories of crossing the boarder from Mexico into California .... So poignantly you brought it back...and with much sensitivity. Thank you! ![]() |

My sea bag cannot contain them all, and how would I ever choose? What laws would forbid, and which of these societies would loose? Where would I keep them and how would I know what to do? My hands tied, tape across my youthful words, listening only not to abuse. They say, every picture tells a story, but indeed, this one grabs your heart and will not let go...incredible write! Say everyone of them in my mind's eye. Thank you JL for your compassion and tenderness. |

This is so heartwrenching, I can see them now being left behind and wondering all the what if's. you write in scent and colour and emotion of real life and it hurts. Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind. Unknown |
