When I feel adrift, I visit a friend known only to me as friend… for he doesn’t know how I count on his words, or his style. It never fails that I will find a profundity that must have been inside me, awaiting a path… so this night, at this age, I uncover a wrinkle that could trip me up if left alone, so I think to air it… I disguise too much of what I write. I have yet to really draw down for me, those lines over which a shudder might fall, acting as if I’ve not a care in the world as to what you or you might think, so, where is my honesty? Hiding deepest pains, never acknowledging the most devastating events, who cares I wonder… as we all rush forward for the newest wrong that seems misplaced on another’s shoulders, for they are not strong enough, we think, to bear this burden. Give it to me. We suppose to handle all, alone, we’re living longer, stronger, wiser, by way of too much info… ~*~ and I realize that writing is much like dinner from scratch, long hours of careful selection, chopping and dicing just so, stewing and simmering, glazing and then the service, on fine china beset with the best of crystal and silver… the five or six hours of preparation slide down easily, or perhaps choked down by someone who can’t stand mushrooms… (fungus, you know…) in less than 20 minutes. The honesty of the cook, the greed of the diner… it’s just like a poem. I think I will write more of mushrooms. |

Karilea A very thoughtfilled write. "Hiding deepest pains, never acknowledging the most devastating events, who cares I wonder… as we all rush forward for the newest wrong that seems misplaced on another’s shoulders," I care! |

What an analogy! Variety is the spice of life and cooking! I really enjoyed this, Karilea. |

Very true, at times the preparation out weighs the presentation, But, I have learned to enjoy the blade work The blending, stirring and whisking And with my cooking they’d better like fungus (or give them and extra glass of wine). Enjoyed the write Gloom |

Kari...Was on my way to the couch, stopped to read this and wanted to tell ya it's rare that I appreciate a poem as much as I did this. I'm sitting here in damn near amazement. Wow. And this is a different tone than I'm used to from you. Excellent writing Kari, truly... |

Sunshine, I'm with Duncan. This is a different blend from you, but has your wonderful flow... I think it is one of my favorites-such honesty. Very much appreciated the fine write... Sadie |

Karilea, this is so true. How many of us only write of the happy and untroubling thoughts. How it would help us if we would write of the feelings way down inside that are hurting so bad?? Thanks for this, SunshineyOne. Hugs, Ethel |

I just copied this poem and printed it... and hung it over my computer desk. I won't be able to leave it there for long before my family complains about "clutter".... but for a few days I'll have a constant reminder of the way things ought to be. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

Not bad, Karilea! I like the way you slid into your subject, and then brought in the metaphor to polish things off. It takes creativty and skill to do that. You have both, along with a caring soul for those around you. |

"I disguise too much of what I write." "for they are not strong enough, we think, to bear this burden." You find such neat scenes to paint with words. I find two themes in this poem, if I read it rightly. The first is your feeling that your meaning is not always clear. The second is a feeling that you wish to solve problems that you feel others cannot? Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |

Ah, that "busy work" to keep our minds quiet. It may simply be the era or kind upbringing that keeps the secrets. Not dishonest but reserved. Not at all shallow but those deep still waters that run but run silent and unseen. There's nothing wrong with having to work for someone's meaning so long as one avoids conclusion jumping or assumes without some "walking in another's shoes". I enjoyed this purposely unguarded moment. |
