A 45 in a CD World I may not be that edgy Doesn’t mean I have a wedgy But I still have plenty left, I want to say The world is getting smaller, and the buildings are all taller And my hair is slowly starting, to turn gray It’s true I’m getting older, and the season’s getting colder But I've barely even started, to begun Because I still remember, how to light those burning embers And there’s plenty of time left under the sun Don’t get the wrong impression, that you’re hearing a confession Sure we almost had the whole thing come unfurled But call me what you have to, ‘cause I’ll never be ashamed To be a 45, in this here CD world The records are still movin, and the music is still groovin After all these years, the song remains the same You have your Russell Crowe now And we had The Duke and Eastwood Back when sports was still about, playing the game Those days were so much simpler, Happy Days, with Henry Winkler When a dime of coke was something you could drink When growing up was easy, eating macaroni cheezy When you actually had some time, when you could think When gangsta was a movie, and times were really groovy When hip hop was a kid who hopped on pop When all we did was necking, because we were still respecting When somebody told you no, and you would stop Our own stairway to heaven, living at seven eleven When we didn’t need computers just to chat We felt so hip and groovy Going to the drive in movie What I mean is, “that’s the bomb” and it was “phat” Don’t get the wrong impression, that you’re hearing a confession Sure we almost had the whole thing, come unfurled But call me what you have to, ‘cause I’ll never be ashamed To be a 45, in this here CD world The records are still movin, and the music is still groovin After all these years, the song remains the same Now you have Justin and Britney And we had The Stones and Whitney And the politicians are still really lame It’s just that I am gettin tired hearing that we’re not inspired Can somebody just cut me, a pair of slacks? I mean like, “hey whatever!” “What you don’t think we we’re clever?” I think 45’s are way cool to the max! We had a realization, That to save a civilization We were going to have to all stand up and shout! The torch is being passed now So be careful with the future Let your voice be heard cause that’s what it’s about Live your life filled with compassion Try and make it the new fashion And another generation will survive Please take care of one another Hug your sister and your brother And someday, you too, can be a 45 [This message has been edited by Richy (02-08-2004 01:16 AM).] |

I DO remember when..... This is sooooooo cute and I think it is wonderful to be a 45 in a CD world. HOW TRUE HOW TRUE: When all we did was necking, because we were still respecting When somebody told you no, and you would stop Our own stairway to heaven, living at seven eleven When we didn’t need computers just to chat [This message has been edited by Youngatheart (02-08-2004 08:50 AM).] |

(smiles) Yay! Oh Richy, I wish I was born in the early 1950's and then when I was an adolescent got to be part of all the flower power (free of the drugs of course! ) and get to write all that special music back in the days when the music industry was booming, yay! (big angel hugs) Consider me a 45 who likes listening to CDs too to catch up on the latest trends but lives with a classic heart, God Bless You, I am a Zeppelin Shakirite, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Richy, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "You'll find something that's enough to keep you |

When gangsta was a movie, and times were really groovy When hip hop was a kid who hopped on pop this was my favorite part! so cute! the whole work is great,,,,, must share this,,,,, this past summer, I had my 8 year old son along yardsale hopping,,,,he picks up an old record,,,,and after looking it over for a few minutes,,,asked me what kind of frisbee it was,,,,I tried to explain what it was,,,,he said I was sill, it would have never fit into our DC player! Michelle I wish all could find the true happiness I have found,,in the eyes of Mike |

Clever title, great examples, poignant points, flowed rather like a country song, and left me wanting to tell you: "Good Job!" -MVS You CAN make a difference: |

Dawn ~ Thanks Dawn, for humoring this long timer. In case you weren’t sure what the poem was about, a 45 is a small vinyl disk that could record music on a cylindrical groove. Hence the old 60’s term, “groovy.” Okay, the groovy part I made up... lol You know I’m teasing right Dawn Seriously, Thank You! Dixie ~ Yeah Dixie, you know you’re a 45, when people start referring to the time you were young, as the good “old” days... Thanks Dixie Michelle ~ Michelle, that is a classic story... lol “fit into our DC player” Thanks for sharing that Michelle, and for the warm comments. |

Mark Sheldon ~ “Cause I’m proud to be an American da da da da da da da“... it kind of does have a country twang doesn’t it... lol Thanks Mark. I appreciated your comments. Ethel ~ You know I didn’t mind being a 33 rpm as much... but... oh no, isn’t there a 78 record too... lol Thanks Ethel! It’s always nice to see you. Maureen ~ Thanks Maureen! I’m happy I could get your groove going this morning... |

Richy...I'm 52...my grandfather made me [with scraps] a record-player so I could play my 45's...later I learned he had a whole lot of 78's...[he was a mechanical genius...his true worth still resides in governmental tombs...] the men and women on the "boob-tube" were strong in morals and the complexities of their time...true heroes in ways not only of the media...some DID range larger than life beyond the screen. Jimmy Stewart comes to mind... this was an excellent production of word play of a time gone from today, but not from memory. Tell me, Richy...was ours a memorable past? yes.... I hope our future generations realize just how good the old days were... |

First of all Karilea, you don’t look a day over 29! And you’re right about the role models we had in our generation. It sure seemed like they were more genuine. It’s funny how you don’t really realize how good something is, until it’s gone. I mean we still have some decent blokes in today’s world like, Dan, Peter, or Tom as a modern day Walter Cronkite Bill Cosby, as new kind of Bob Hope And many many other professional athletes, musicians, and actors who still have strong moral values, and a good sense of decency. But, the winds really are shifting toward a society with less respect, and compassion, and less tolerance and responsibility. Funny, how are parent’s generation said the same thing about our’s... and how this new generation will be feeling the same way about their children’s generation...when they are 45’s too... Hey what can we do, besides be there for our kids... and for each other. I’ll tell you one thing though... and don’t tell this to any of the CD’s... But... our generation... It really was, the best... Thanks Karilea |

My mom had 78's... Come to think of it... She's a 78 - She trusted in us 45's, even though she didn't like the music much. So we're downloading to the CD now, eh? Here's hoping those CD's are resilient - Technology gets more and more complicated all the time... and who knows what'll come next, after all... Superb, Richy |

O Richy, you always manage to make me smile with your words. I remember them 45's I've got a stack of them in the cupboard, I should pull them out again. Absolutely wonderful writing Maree Beauty of the world which is soon to perish has two edges, one of laughter and one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder. |

*Laughs appreciatively* Wow... Puts a whole new perspective on my being young and ignorant. Very much enjoyed, even by this Seventeen year old fool. Thank you for the read, and the glance into an interesting sounding past. -Rdz One in a sea of millions has the power to change the world... |

Iliana ~ Thanks so much Jo! It’s fun to cruise memory lane now and again isn’t it? Toe ~ Old man? Toe... your so old... your social security number is 1 But seriously... an eight track? I might be able to go... a reel to reel... but I thought eight tracks were already obsolete, before you even heard your first Barney song... besides, didn’t you guys have to give those old record players a few good cranks, just to get them started... Oh, and crack? Check with Balladeer... I think he has some letter’s for you... ??? Hey Thanks for stopping by Toe! I’m a big fan.! Your sense of humor is bar none! |
