Lost in translations Thin belts of unraveling threads Cursing and muttering, I went belly up Kicking off the evening dreads Favoring an independent bookstore Dark Shadows followed mayhem and Prairie lights looked right through me While snow fell the entire night One fainting leaf remained attached From a higher elevation, chanting my legal rights That being said, never-the-less Inside a delicate truce broke through Slowly, without my flute I still managed to play those songs with my mind We danced…. Like a horse running as fast as it could Then, suddenly…stopped…and… Before a salivating evil eye, my face smiled I said, quivering, “Shall I sing you a song?” To see that death never conquers love Well, He grimaced and groaned Grasped my arm, leading me to resilience I screamed, “Sir, your misinformed”, but heck, he didn’t listen My tired breath talked badly for hours About onions and garlic Without a hint of Listerine Because winning would be the greatest loss This confounded devil had ever seen! The image in my heart awoke a sound Great pain would have me live! Where by some slim grace, I found my name tag All parched and singed I smugly handed it to him, crossing my arms Head on pretty aloof, with a smeary smile Shaking my fingers I said, “See you half-wit of a mules behind!” These nametags were here all this time! And that kind of sweetness cancels every torture That your kind will never know! Well, he looked down to the ground shifting from leg to leg Embarrassed, but from his vanity could not escape Looking deep into his eyes saying The more you kill me, the more I wake! And I’m back in the saddle again! Riding fast as the wind Fair the well, my deepest fear…Mr. Gag me with a spoon Death Alas I am guided by the burning winds of good earthened flames And no trials on God’s Green Earth, can ever take that away! |
