You Have Done Yourselves Proud As I sit upon this stone of marble I look out at the scene painted before me Manicured lawns of green Trees of green and the quiet sound of silence Yes dear family You have done yourself proud My casket lined in silk A comfortable bed to lie in In my eternal sleep But when I walked this earth My bed was made of cardboard My blanket of thrown away newspaper My pillow from a trash bin In my bed of eternal sleep You have dressed me in the finest clothing man can buy Wrapped me in expensive furs and fingers with glittering gold But when I walked this earth Rags from a dumpster I did wear No diamonds upon my fingers, no gloves of silk My illness an inconvenience A shame to be hidden and ignored My riches have done you well Dear family You have, once again, done yourselves proud. wow, riviting write...done with an elegance only you can project...sad and what comes to mind is...how could all that money bring back the time they missed with their loved one? Love you and thank you for sharing. |

quote: ~*~ In some instances, Bonnie, I would agree. But there are many kinds of illnesses that drive people away from their families as they will not consider, or accept, help. I know this, on a personal basis. It's a good write, and a hard hitting poem, Bonnie. You did yourself proud with the truth of the matter. |

Hi Sunshine I understand your words. I wrote a poem called "Women of the Streets." It touched on your very words. But this came to me last night as I was trying to fall asleep and still the words this morning was racing about in my head so I wrote them down. Thanks you for reading. Love Bon-Bon |
