First Impressions

The first time she came to me
I was surprised.
In the mist of the falling rain
she called out my name.
I didn't know her then,
but she told me that she knew of me
from a mutual friend.
The rain stopped as suddenly as it began
and with her scarf she wiped
the raindrops from my face.
It was then that I took the time
to look into her eyes.
They were kind eyes, and my heart
could sense the depth of her tenderness.
As the sunshine resumed its duty
to warm the Hawaiian skies, I inquired
of her if I could see her again.
Then I memorized the lovely smile
upon her face as she said
"I know where you hang out,
and I'm looking forward
to being your friend."
