I do not understand this land That rolls instead of climbs To lay before me in vistas Reminding of grandma’s quilt In patches of brown and green Streaked as now in white Even snow will not stay For the wind blows From place of land to away And piles it at feet of gnarled hedge Or along stone line piled As fence for lack of tree And there it lays only for a while Then off in swirl for journey Of another mile The landscape expands in cold With each grey cloud Miles away touching the ends Too far for even the coyote To hear the howl of storm Till sometime later When close its born And nothing stands its way Leaving it further from the first Of falling snow And relief from winter’s blast Still, I marvel at its plain face Appearing simple till you see The age lines etched In cheek of field Or furrowed in the chin of hill Always without smile For to smile would say it welcomes Or is pleased that we these creatures Have taken way the tall grass To grow corn and beans And drill holes in search of oil At best it only grins With wildflowers along the corners Of the lips that gullies spread Then turns serious again But it is clear I do not know this place I make home Its moods which change in light And would ask the eyes to see large this plane Yet know small for the beauty here Is subtle in the mind And I Miss tall hills With bluff of stone and oak To hem me in With rivered gravel beds And water clear But here… I am Without understand of this land Though now I call it home And find it has with all its ways Seeped deep within my bones |

The landscape expands in cold With each grey cloud Miles away touching the ends Too far for even the coyote To hear the howl of storm Till sometime later When close its born And nothing stands its way Leaving it further from the first Of falling snow And relief from winter’s blast Still, I marvel at its plain face Appearing simple till you see The age lines etched In cheek of field Or furrowed in the chin of hill Always without smile For to smile would say it welcomes Or is pleased that we these creatures Have taken way the tall grass ~*~ You know how I ache to capture this lady of the plains... reading this... I know my own job isn't yet done. This one sure walked across my spine and sent shivers down my soul. Well done, Sir...no, more than that. Exceptional. If anyone knew their states' mores, they could not help from knowing this one, stated as well as it is. Yes. Exceptional. And Libraried. So that I might learn. |

"But it is clear I do not know this place I make home Its moods which change in light And would ask the eyes to see large this plane Yet know small for the beauty here Is subtle in the mind" Yes. Sounds like home to me too. |

Yes, Very Much So. rivers run cold now even flutter of leaves have stilled in frozen dance and glance of river, even crunch of snow beneath paw sounds in the air; even the eyes of yesterday look for sunlight and summer. |

Sometimes we find no point in adding more words . . . we just enjoy. |
