Going back, one tends to feel There’s something to be gained. Picturing, the way it was, Wondering, what remained. Approaching, slowly, fearfully, Too afraid to see, What time, in all its disregard, Has done to memory. The little house, once full of love, That sat upon the hill, Would it be there, could it be there, Will it be standing…still? And if it’s not, What then! Will I be sorry that I came. And what if it and memory Do not come up the same? The gate, ajar, and tilted In an awkward, dangling way. The yard, unkempt, and littered The façade in disarray. But the house is there, Still standing, just beyond the latch, Mom’s kitchen, just the way it was, Though the smells no longer match. Down the hallway, third door to the left, My little, tiny room, Where I played grown-up, in mom’s clothes And wasted her perfume. The house is there, And clearly, still contains my memories You can go home, if in your heart You never loose the keys. www.InnerCirclePublishing.com |

Home is where your heart is! You can take the person out of the home, but you can't take the home out of the person! Lovely poem ~ and very well understood by this reader... Warm, welcoming hugs, Earth Angel |

Hi Sis I now live in the house that I was raised in. If my mom would come back she would see a difference, but in some ways still the same. Have a great evening. Love and Hugs Your silly sis Bon-Bon |

Wow, this was a very creative poem. I would never have thought to write about something like this, and to be honest, if I would have, I don't think I could have captured the imagery and emotions of home nearly as much as you did. Great poem and nice rythym. |
