Between the Lines

Tempered

Listening to the drops hitting
one after the other,
a rhthym once putting me to sleep
now keeping me awake.

The darkness ahead,
obscuring future plans once palatable,
now desensitizing my taste
for what lies ahead.

Death is inevitable, but the daily motions
and routines deny the truth for now.
Never knowing when it will strike
lays a fear in this heart,
breaking up a closeness
that would otherwise be there
to comfort.

I sleep away my thoughts in vagueness,
though behind these eyes the reel still rolls
and the body wakes as if it never rested,
tomorrow's tenseness facing me in the mirror.

Maybe the miracle that hasn't produced
is that the end will come soon
and the waiting will be over.
Tears will be allowed and then the memories
will change the course of this one's life.

My words are almost meaningless now,
to me, to her, probably to any who read,
unless you have seen what death looks like
walking and talking to you.

You wear blinders, smile alot or look away
when you can't control the emotions
wanting out of your body.

A child should not leave before its parent,
a mother shushing away the news,
and me having to bear it all.

M

Words fail me Maur, so my prayers will have to do.
I too wish I could ease your pain.

Thinking of you, with love~
