Life absorbs the moments when your servant to the clock
And leisure offers nothing but that time to somehow block
The once creative mind does lose what once did come at ease
And somehow something kills the love that once did come to please

I’m living in a whirlwind which is pulling me apart
And though I like the challenge it is eating at my heart
For I more love the passion and the words I sometimes write
I’m older but more busy and this end is out of sight

Life’s the biggest challenge and its paths lead us to where?
We take the leap and hope a lot that what we seek is there
But looking back on what we did and what we somehow lost
We say what’s more important and to what’s the final cost

At times the doing what is right, is not right for the soul
And doing those expected things, diverts you from your goal
Regret, regret, that dreaded thought, might one day come to mind
And all the love you left behind, is way too lost to find

I’m preaching from my inner thoughts that come and always speak
And sharing what the heart does feel somehow does help me seek
So though my days are busy and for now I see no end
It’s nice to share my ponders with my pen and with a friend

How honestly and wonderfully stated, as is your entire poem.  It's Spring now, time when we can't help but stop to smell the flowers-just like this one.  It is a beauty.
Thank you, Rick.

Hello old friend...good to see you here again

This write makes me ponder what life is really about...and why we seem to get stuck in the daily routines, being slaves to time, forced to run right on past the pleasures of living...

you always make me think

hugs,
Dixie

Rick
Sir, I stand and applaud this poem...
Filled with truth and told in an open and easy way , understandable and it comes very close to describing my own life...

"I’m living in a whirlwind which is pulling me apart
And though I like the challenge it is eating at my heart
For I more love the passion and the words I sometimes write
I’m older but more busy and this end is out of sight"

This also speaks a great deal about my life..

"At times the doing what is right, is not right for the soul"

Words such as these are why I read "Leaves Of Grass" often They have that Whitman wisdom in them....

"Regret, regret, that dreaded thought, might one day come to mind
And all the love you left behind, is way too lost to find"

Thank you for this wonderful poem

Hi Rick

It is always such a pleasure to read your outstanding words.  You send so much warmth and love through your pen as you write and we are so fortunate to be able to share your life with you.

"A friend who is far away is sometimes
much nearer than one who is at hand.
Is not the mountain far more awe-inspiring
and more clearly visible to one passing
through the valley than to those who
unhabit the mountain?"

Take care my friend

Hi Rick, Very enjoyable to read your words, as always. And isn't it too bad that life doesn't let us enjoy it as much as we should.

Your words sound familiar, dear Rick. You are so right, there are priorities, we know them, but we are in the flow of our busy days and suddenly we are aware of time passing by and what we really love to do comes always last ...
Thank you for this well crafted poem, which holds true wisdom.
Love, Margherita
