All has not been lost.
That is what she tells herself
in the dark times
when the words are as stubborn about flowing
as the tears
that are pooled somewhere
in the hollow part of normal.
Where did the ride break the rules?
When did she become someone
who could break hearts
by barely batting an eye?
These days
there is a story for each word
a meaning behind everything
and everything hiding behind unreachable futures.
She keeps loosing her voice
the one that likes to sing
of peace
and of silences in the soul
that compare to the sound
of morning sun covering a world
of dew kissed awakening things.
It shouldn't come like this though
the beleaguered moments
when something with too much shade
touches places
more likely to be safe
hidden
than announced with the arrogant malice
of forced smiles.
Things that reach too far into the gut
are too dangerous to hold hands with.
Things that grip the heart so quickly
are too sadistic
to cause harm to
once they have grown
into impeccably sweet faced
and acid breathing demons.
Where did the ride change the rules
while covering her eyes
with comforting
but unyeilding hands?
Life shouldn't be like this
moments infected with questions
of whether or not she will be smiling
tomorrow
tonight
in the next hour
or the next minute.
Things that reach too far in to the gut
are too demanding to hold hands with
and men who employ emotional blackmail
should be spoken with carefully
and considered considerably dangerous.
She let something grip her too tightly
so her heart slows its breathing
and she is exacting a method of resolve
from somewhere inside her soul
but it steals time away
and she should not wonder
from one moment to the next
whether she will be smiling
or crying.

All of my impurities are right here on my sleeve. This is Me"---Faith Hill

Dang, this poem just wrung me out and left me feeling rather despairing, resigned to face the emptiness and unfairness of life..sigh

quote:
Where did the ride change the rules
while covering her eyes
with comforting
but unyeilding hands?

I've oft pondered similiar questions but now tend to think there never were any rules to begin with...

Very thought provoking and wonderfully written, enjoyed much by me.
