What do you think, as you sit alone, by your dreaming fireside? Do past memories flood your mind? And things that most gave you pride? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To sit with all of the lonely elderly of our world and life; I would do and take away their fear and strife. Love glowing kind and gentle, the love of a relation, i would bring. Hearing their wonderful tales of days gone by and sweet songs they would sing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sleep softly soundly, let me watch over you, be there for you at night. For you i will talk and offer comfort of gentle love and light. My heart goes out to the lonely, it aches for all who are solitatry. Thank you for all you have done and achieved, to you i give my warmest love completely. ''Each soul is potentialy divine..the goal is to manifest that divinity'' [This message has been edited by Goldenrose (03-19-2004 05:29 AM).] |

When one listens closely to the elderly... so many things become touched by magic. I like this, Phil. Thank you. |

What do you think, as you sit alone, by your dreaming fireside? Do past memories flood your mind? And things that most gave you pride? When a teen, I was a candy-striper at a nursing home. I often wondered, too. You expressed this very well. |

Hello Phil Your golden heart shines so brightly through your kindhearted words. I can relate so very well to this as I visit an 83 year old lady named Merle every Friday in my role as a volunteer. We spend two hours together each week and we just sit and talk and pass the time of day. She tells me how much she appreciated my visits and I tell her that I get just as much out of them and I have made a wonderful friend. She shares my love of poetry and music so I read some poems to her and she loves it. The elderly have so much to offer us but a lot of people are too quick to forget the value they still add to society. Your words were so heartfelt and so much appreciated. Take care.......Sue I am in motion |

GR This is a topic that should be written on more often...Thank you for this fine poem, though short, it is filled with respect and understanding...it reminds me of the chorus of a song by John Prine.... "Ya’ know that old trees just grow stronger, And old rivers grow wilder ev’ry day. Old people just grow lonesome Waiting for someone to say, "hello in there, hello." enjoyed ________ice ><> |
