Fires of Tomorrow Set this bridge to burning, Burning my name in the cornerstone And maybe the beautiful sky will fall with us too. It’s your eyes I’m watching, Watching for a sign that I am alone And the horizon and sea will meet in melted blues. I remember those summer days, Days in crystal clear water below tonight; They all fall on me and slip from my mind with these tears. Silently wasting memory away, Away from my dimmed bedroom light, But they all whisper to me from corners of my fears. Replacing the white snow clouds With the weeping ash billows of tomorrow; And I’ll try not to shamefully hide in myself again. I hear the often thunder so loud And it sweeps me away with the calling of sorrow; But the lonely sky will cry tonight with the hearts of men. If this bridge falls once more, I won’t rebuild it only to be set aflame; The ash from the last flame still blankets my old ways. To only know what gasoline is for, You’ll ignite the night with my sad name, But the beautiful sky will come one day, come someday. |
