i. we had so much more when we could count our age on our fingers. he/she...them. no one knows where the innocence flies when we are pushed to let go of anything (everything) that represents us. it just leaves unexpectedly like a rolling wave, a draining disease. ii. i tried holding on but he shouted at me, "don't you see, can't you tell." i was never blind but i also could never find a release anywhere to realize what i had done and why. there were questions always floating just above my head but my fingers never ventured up into the air to reach for them. iii. and i apologized over and over again in my head. you couldn't have known... you never showed anything except hard eyes and tight knuckles. i never knew who you were, you never fought me into the burning fire. we just stood there, unharmed for awhile. i wish i could have realized where we were coming from and why we always felt so dead in the end. |
