THE WAIT Row upon row upon endless row. Line up. Faces reflected in the sky. Pale grey shadows, Cast a darkness, Over the dead faces. Helmets constructed, Out of paper. For all they were worth. The sodden paper slips. Falling from, A fallen soldier's head. The sweat of fear, Indistinguishable, From the sprays of blood, And the rotting stench, Of a man roasted. Until his last breath. Mouths hang, Jaws dropped. Dislocated. Only half a face. Remainder melted and fused, Into the burning gun metal. Battle lines drawn. Somewhere between, A telephone wire, And half an atom. The war on two fronts, Of an indecisive government. The jagged rip in the sky, Reflected ; a thousand times over. In the eyes, Of every soldier in the world. As they fade away. An old one but I felt it was particularly poignant today. |

This is such a awesome poem. I've saved it into my library thing. It's also so sad. "Why are my visions so unliving with dreams? And why do I no longer care?" - Stygian |
