My gentle, gentle, gentle friend
My courage fails me in the end
I feel myself descending in
A shell surrounding what was skin
Hiding thoughts I would not say
Pushing everyone away
Retreating back inside of me
The demons that I have let free
I need to find a hiding place
Where none can look upon my face
And see the child of my defeat
This past I cannot seem to beat
You hold me from my hiding place
That you might reach to touch my face
To hold me tight, to hold you near
To try to vanish aged fear
And wipe away my falling tears
Held back for years and years and years
Let me go where I can heal
Back to when I could not feel
Close this window to my mind
To hurt and pain I can be blind
The past alone was pain enough
To dig it up is twice as tough
Save yourself the abandoned end
My gentle, gentle, gentle friend
