The fire sizzles and cracks sitting so warm

on a dark cold night, when lives are torn

but something happens on this special night

something wonderful that makes it alright

they laugh and they smile

say "don't go, stay a while"

but sooner or later they have to go home

and when they did they would be alone

so much for beingspecial they thought

but what a tragedy would come, what it brought

a family of four on their way home from a gathering

talking and laughing, until someone started beeping

it happend so quickly, it happend so fast

the accident came in such a quick flash

the glass that was shattered everywhere

a little voice cries out, " Is anyone there?"

the darkness and shadows someone left behind

those people never knew that day was the last time

that they would laugh, or smile, or even hold a hand

someone took their life, and why, many didn't understand

now along that road was a sign that would say

a family of four, there lives were taken on Christmas day

a few years have gone by, but many never passed

the thought of those lives, taken, grasped

its not just their lives whose been affected

ones who loved them, when life was golden

now in tears by the lives that were stolen

no matter how hard they try to look away

they never forget what happend on that christmas day

Very well writen, a reminder that no matter what the day or how special it is life is given and life is taken away. If it happens on a holiday, the holiday always reminds those of those they lost on that day.  If this is your loss I hope that as time goes by you can heal, and begin to celebrate in some way the lives of those so precious to you, remembering the special times you had with them. That is what I have learned to do.

Amazing job. This poem just reinforces the thought of living each day as if it were your last – because you never know what is going to happen next.
