no poem today there seems no reason
to look beyond the window and sip
the pale still wine of morning

or listen to glass chimes voice the sad
refrain of stars that twinkle out
as the sun pours light across the darkness

nameless strangers may walk my beach
of words yet they'll not hear the surf
crash on my rocks of dreams and memories

in this cold house of dappled light
and autumn leaves, time’s run down
to winter minutes and I can’t find

the wings to carry me beyond
night's granite weight
and avalanche of silence
