Loosing track of the past, Is all too easy to forget, When experience leaves you aghast, The past is all you have got left. You loose track of your lessons, You forget the pain, And so overthrow your conditioning, And walk out in the rain, Like a mouse in a cage, With time you become enraged, And wonder why the world forsake you, And declare it is time for a change. But by then it is too late, To escape from the future, For your past becomes your present, And the past becomes impossible to capture. The mistakes we make, The tears we cry, The lies we create, Lamenting lost lives, Regretting the past, What could never last, Becomes a thing of habit, And so you leave your life to chance, So history repeats itself again and again, And when you die, It is as if you never happened, An event forgotten, A life erased, A soul lost, Impossible to replace. |

An event forgotten, A life erased, A soul lost, Impossible to replace. We all live in our little worlds, don't we? Somehow it seems that in the light of those recent events we retreat there more often and in doing so lose track of what makes us who we are. Even when we try to move on those demons haunt us and hold us back, clinging onto that memory we are trying to avoid. Very good write, but one critique I have is when you talk about the past being the present it sounds like you want to avoid it, but when you say impossible to capture you kind of contradict yourself. I know you mean that you want the good of the past to still be around, but the pain you might have felt at the same time is all that is left, but I kind of get lost in that translation. |

Good interpretation, but when I said the past becomes the present, I meant it in an objective way; what happens to us shapes our experience, so in a way the past manifests itself in the present. Yet the past is impossible to recreate, and so we are stuck with our experience. It is a double sided coin so to speak. |
