I use to trade fruit I traded pears for cigarettes Apples for sex Bananas for pencils Peaches for poems Blueberries for blood transfusions Tomatoes for tickles Oranges for Basking in the sunset Next to a redheaded woman Then one day I sit chomping raisins With my back To the morning sunlight Because I have nothing else to eat When suddenly the lightening informs me That fruit is God’s gift to man And I must never let it pass into another man’s hands Overjoyed I gallop over to the nearest tree And bite into a bright red apple Still attached to the limb I allow the sweet nectar to Flow from my lips Onto my fingertips I choke Collapse And die Under the tree As red blood Slides from my mouth Onto the bright green grass |

this is an intresting poem, there are a few things that were brought to my attention, first you change tenses in the first stanza to the rest, second to me the title is misleading to me, i did not see a lesson learned here, he found the secret of the fruit, then he died, but then maybe that is supposed to be the lesson learned. i don't know i don't see the connection here... "For those who understand you, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, none is possible." |

Your poem really captured my attention. There are certain elements in it that take me in one direction, but when I go back to the title and the line about eating raisins, I'm not at all sure I'm on the right track. I'm going to reread, think about it, then, hopefully, come back with a more meaningful comment. I like the poem a lot and really want to understand it. |
