Just Another Day?
No Christmas tree again this year No twinklin’ lights or tinsel No wreath hung out on the front door And no mistletoe as usual.
There’s no bright star up at the top And no wrapped up presents under And nobody gathered all around Their eyes sparklin’ bright in wonder.
Just another day to come and go And it’s almost like any other Except everyone’s with someone else And here I am, without another.
And so, even though I am alone I know, that’s not really so For if I look I know I’ll see Some like me, no matter where I go.
There are some there without a home No place to lay their weary head And so, I know I should be grateful And not feeling sorry for me, instead.
I have loved ones with me in heart And I know that I am in theirs There are so many miles between But, brought close by each, who cares.
So, though there is no Christmas tree And Christmas Eve won’t be lit bright I’ll still have to count my blessings By Christmas’ early morning light.

Christmas can be such a joyful time, but unfortunately it can also be a time of lonliness for those who are separated from their loved ones ~ or who not have any loved ones to be separated from.
It sounds as tho' you are full of love and appreciation of what you do have in your life, but that you are missing what you once did have.
I felt the loneliness in your words, but also your loving heart.

Oh my, Abe. This really touched my heart. There are so many in this same situation out there, with loved ones many miles away from them. Holidays can be very sad, sometimes. Best Wishes to you, Ethel[This message has been edited by garysgirl (12-10-2003 12:23 PM).]

I do so know what you mean... get yourself some cocoa and a candy cane... and try not to spend too much time watching the other families, thats what's most depressing. Try to enjoy...

Abe, this is a beautifully touching poem.
I work security at a gated community of about 550 families. I will be working Christmas Eve and Day, and I will be around a lot of people...some I've come to know as family.
It is still depressing but I am blessed.

It is a time to count our blessings.. and when feeling down and lonely.. You can always come to PiP like I do!
Sad, yet very timely, and well written piece Del.

As the holidays approach, I'm usally alone. No need to feel sad. This is what I do. I buy myself a beautiful bouquet of flowers, spray the house with Mulberry or Evergreen or put cloves and cinnamon in the oven what a delightful aroma. Then I fix myself a beautiful meal maybe a turkey breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, my favorite pie or cake and maybe alittle bit more. Then I share with my neighbors the goodies I have baked. Have your favorite music playing and then your blues climb right out the window and melts in the freezing rain.
Love and hugs Bon-Bon [This message has been edited by Bonnie j (12-11-2003 10:08 AM).]

Abe, I enjoyed this one. It's tight and well-worded, with just enough imagery. It made me sad, and I know what you mean. I went ahead and put up a tree and a nativity scene even though I'm the only one to see it. I won't be alone at Christmas, but I'll have it over at Mom's so my house will be non-Christmasy. Not like when the kids were little and there was colored paper all over the floor. Sigh-those were the good days.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Abe, I'm so sorry that you are feeling this way, dearest friend, it is a very natural feeling to miss loved ones during this time of year but always take to heart how they think the most of you and will always love you with all their heart and are wishing you the happiest holidays! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, I send angel friendship hugs your way, know you are always loved and never alone in heart, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Abe, thank you for sharing!
May love and light always shine upon you!
