Slow to Die
I watched the blow of slow to die Theses ember of a fires fly It took to wind and land my skin And burned just like a brand of sin
And when it raised the red of felt It caused a blister in the welt And brought about a dart of pause Just to peak the sharp of cause.
It’s then I knew the reason why It was an ember of a sigh A cry that I had buried deep A cry that caused me lack of sleep.
But why the ember burns me now Perhaps a turn of psyches plough And I am at a lose to see Why this burn should bother me.
A weeding time, perhaps a clue A vent perhaps, old sorrows spew.

Oh Sybabes..this is such an achingly beautiful write...I do so love when Randy fires up your pen.
You know the moth loves this one... slow burn is my specialty. LOL But its the word play and rhyme verbiage along with the depth of expression that makes this one so cool.
as to your query ....
Why this burn should bother me.

somethings never should.

Isn't it funny how one thing inspires another....You bring that out so poetically but discernable too.
Good work....Love that first verse.....The title really sucked me in....

Good morning, Sweet Sonneteer!
~ Cleaning our emotional house is not always a fun thing to do ~ but it is often a necessary evil for our ultimate sense of well-being!
Make a clean sweep of all that soot! Onward and upward! ~ without the baggage and totally unencumbered!
You have such a fertile imagination! I guess some of the soot from your dying embers helps with your fertility! lol
Morning hugs, EA

Seymour, it's odd how those old memories when come to mind at the most unexpected times, isn't it? These seems to happen more around the holidays. Happy Holidays, my friend

Hello, Sy, I loved your analogies and imagery. It fired back memories of one of our large round bales of hay. It seems that placement of these monsters is very important (if you place them on their sides, or cattywompus, and the hay was put up somewhat wet, spontaneous combustion can take its play). This happened; the firen department put it out, all went well, and the smoke subtly steamed out, with a new fire beginning. After reading your poem and relating to my fire experience, I won't see those big bales quite the same! Sadelite

Excellent, excellent writing
I liked your references to embers, but you know that embers can so quickly flare into dancing flames.
enjoyed reading Liz
