I was down and broke in Bangor Feelin sorry for myself Drank my last drop of liquor Tryin to face the trip to hell Headin back a vagrant minstrel To my old hometown St John With news so uneventful Oh I never sold a song. So I answered an ad for work In the local classifieds In the interview with her I found a woman dark and shy She struggled with her innocence A flower in her own shade when we settled my expense Then she opened up to say Chorus: This farm was Dad's life it was all that made him whole I stayed home to make him happy after Momma passed her soul And he'd say in his own way I should get out on my own But I stayed on n now he's gone I can't work this place alone. I knew then her roots were set It was all she'd ever known Though the pay wasn't the best I decided to give it a go We worked that hot Maine summer Cuttin hay and mending fence And the closer I got to her The more I lost my sense She was twenty years my elder grey hair flowed around her face But her eyes were warm and tender make the devil turn away One night I reached for her and pulled her close to me Said I can't go on much longer I need to be with you or leave This farm was Dad's life it was all that made him whole I stayed home to make him happy after Momma passed her soul And he'd say in his own way I should get out on my own But now you're here I need you near I can't work this place alone. She was in my arms so swiftly thought our passion might explode I felt something leave within me and join the river in her soul Now I had known some girls before who'd make boys think they're men But I never knew what love was for til this lost maiden took me in Chorus This farm was Dad's life it was all that made him whole I stayed home to make him happy after Momma passed her soul And he'd say in his own way I should get out on my own But now you're here I need you near I can't work this place alone Ain't doin nothin at all |

ethome - you do write some great verses in your songs, one day I would love to hear some of them. Perhaps you could even play some of mine... BC |

Gawd Eric! You fascinate me! I'd love to hear the music, and somehow I do, here in the silence of my room ![]() |
