Heroic the couplet before our time, before the engine, ten pennies dime. Before the carriage flew past the tired horse. Before the voicing, of one’s last recourse A couplet more brave than a cavalry Charging head long to chosen destiny Carrying a pause amid the middle not apt to tarry or sit and diddle. Such is this poem of Chaucer’s fame A couplet heroic not lying lame. Apt to draw critics and throw a few jabs Used as one method to carry their gabs. Dryden and Johnson and Wheatley as well penning their couplets, a message to tell. Deserted the village from Goldsmith’s day Oh such a huge price for one man to pay. And still the couplet carries forth the charge guided by a colonel, a drunken old Sarge Heroic this couplet till lines are no more and then Edgar’s pen shall write of Lenore. |

A fine salute to the couplet and those who used it's form to convey emotions, thoughts and ideas. Well done, Barry!! believe in what your heart feels... |

Barry, you know I adore couplet rhyme The rhythm flows for me in perfect time Though others may enjoy A, B, A, B Couplets form for me lov'ly poetry OK, OK...I am still recovering from that Poe like thing I posted yesterday. I thought I'd never look at that poem again. But you know what? I am editing it again...trying to get better rhythm in the piece. I don't believe I have written anything like that one before...and I have to say it darn near caused my end! I love this one...and you know why. To the library it must go! Patricia |
