Rain of Moments

They rain, douse my cast of head
Moments that are past and dead
Drench me in their spill of drain
Some of joy and some of pain

They wet me down and out the fire
Smother the new of my desire.
Cover me with smoke of night
And choke the hews of palette light.

They crash and fizzle on my heart
Splash and sizzle on depart
Dissolve the embers into mud
Each moment’s drop of sound and thud

They drain the energy of flow
Within a hearth of long ago
And hover over birds that fly
Like threatening clouds and lightning sky

They follow me in endless stream
And swallow me in senseless dream
