Stallion clouds:
Blacks and roans
From westward,
Galloping, came
With all-gray riders
Hanging on,
To rolling coach
And flowing manes;
That blocked, near out
The winter sun.
*
They have come east on the clipper
'cross the prairies and the rivers,
Loaded down with heavy burdens
Packing counts beyond all numbers;
Of white flakes that add to winters,
Even drab, a snow-white color.
*
A billion sequins, falling
Light and wind-mixed
Glitter shine, a bridal gown
With polished silver,
In the blue-cold of the morning;
Taking 'way what breath I harbor
By its deep-chill..by their splendor.
*
Undefiled,
The virgins train
Lays spread out on the ground.
Her chariot and horses,
Having dropped their carried burdens
Move now eastward,
Loping on.
*
end

great word use. so smooth and flowing like horse's hooves. I wonder if those stallions you speak of could be living in assateague undercover??? ;P

Nice ice, I can see the gray riding in. A very nice mystical touch to a common subject. You gave the subject a personal essence all it's own. Bringing out the gray which also lies in between. A real nice write. Especially this line, for me. "With all-gray riders".

Ice, I don't see very much snow, living in Florida, but I do love to "see" it through you poets who see it for real. Thank you for painting a picture for my minds eye.

Never, in 58 years, has the first snowfall been this magnificently beautiful.

Thank you for this masterpiece.

Joy is connecting to your e-mail box and finding nine notification/replies to a poem you were not sure would fly....:-)

Passing shadows....Thank you, It is nature that is "beautiful" I am glad you think I captured a bit of it in this poem.....:-)

Bunni
I think the same Stallions visit there sometimes...thank you for the nice comment..... :-)

Poe
The "personal essence" of the poem is here because this write was a personal experience. Of course the people with me did not see the horses because they did not see the world through a poets eyes. Thanks for your reply.... :-)

icebox
I guess that that is a poets objective, to distill the world to its finest essence...a wonderful compliment, thank you...... :-)

Enchantress
I love the way you use the word love so freely.. and the way you ended the comment with "hugs" I am glad you loved the piece...:-)

Earth Angel
Another snow lover....:-)  Thank you for being stirred.... :-)

Martie
Welcome back, and thanks for the kind reply..... :-)

Garysgirl
Thank you for absorbing my picture into your "minds eye" .....:-)

NewEnglandlazurlu
We are about the same age, it seems. There have been many first snow falls, but this one came in on an Alberta Clipper like a heard of wild horses, and deserved to be written about .....Thank you for reading......:-)
btw, I am an admirer of Gandhi, nice to see the quote on your reply...

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Ford, I love the snow every once in a while, howeer here in Colorado it is a desert and we have had an intense drought in the past decade! (smiles) Still we get the occasional accumulation, God Bless You, I love this, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Hello Ford

Thank you for allowing me to see through your words what it is like to see the first of Winter's snow appear.  I have never and probably will never experience that, living here in Melbourne, Australia.  We have snow in some parts in Winter but we have to travel more than three hours to get there.

Take care.......sue
