Would it startle you to hear me say death has been my most constant and reliable companion? I don't believe I ever wished a life this way. Yet on this cold wet Winter's day, looking out upon a grim and glittery venue, I could have felt alone, just me, some coffee, and a phone that never rings to bring within awareness the soft voice of a friend; I am at home, my spirit's warm and comfortable inside its icy shell. It seems I am genetically designed for comfort in a frozen Hell, and I'm quite simply fortunate to realize what I am. ©2004 by icebox |

You have carved this in an excellent way ... I would love to interprete "death" in this poem as the Wellspring of the soul, as you say in the title. ... then the sadness is mitigated. Love and hugs, melt the ice. Margherita |

icebox Well done, but put it in the deep freeze for now. You still have things to do. |

Is death sort of like being married to someone you hate? Just kidding, even though I am new at this, I thought it was pretty good! |

Iceman, this really touched my heart. I actually don't know what to say, for real!! That's unusual for me to be speechless. LOL Heart hugs to you, Sir Poet Ethel |

My friend, I don't think there's any revelation about you that would startle me....at a certain level, startle is a nondescriptor. This poem rings in me, at a bunch of levels -- thank you for it. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

icebox "I am at home, my spirit's warm and comfortable" From your words here I feel the cold all around you and the seeming lonliness, but the feel of the poem comes from the above lines that are anything but cold. To be able to feel this way is a sign of great wealth of spirit and is very warming. |

Some wise person told me that aging is a process of giving things up. This poem reminded me of that. Although it may have seemed sad to some, I did not view it quite like that. You have stated the place where you are or where you imagined, eloquently, as always. ........hugs |

"Would it startle you to hear me say death has been my most constant and reliable companion? " Wouldn't surprise me one bit sir. Yet..you are a warm and caring spirit. And..if I had your number, your phone would be ringing. Excellent write as always. Hugs~ In the midst of winter.. |

"It seems I am genetically designed for comfort in a frozen Hell" Genetically designed? I doubt it..you write words that burn knowledge, truth and passion..that's enough to melt hell itself.. "sit on top of the world and tell me how you feel...'cause what you feel is what I feel for you.." |
