close enough to hear thunder, close enough to be struck |

I’m still a wreck thinking about it. That night could have been so right. I should have checked my heart at the door; instead I poured myself into you. I made everything about you. We went out and you looked so good. A jacket and tie, why? What was the special occasion? I thought perhaps, just me. I could see early on I was wrong. That song and dance was intended for someone else. I never stood a chance. Not with you. Your heart is out of business, and I’m just one of the companies you keep. I would have leaped out of safety with you, and maybe even did by then. And you would have let me fall, and again, and again. The dating game was a myth I thought. A thing played by the younger generation. The ones who still have lives to live, but I guess not. Give me the man in you, and let me do what I do; you’d be mine forever. But your head has taken residency in your heart, and you kill things before they start, and I wonder how far that’s going to get you. Maybe someone has hurt you, done you wrong, wrung your heart out, left it out to long. It’s happened to us all. It’s your reason to stall, and not get involved. But I was fine, alone, without you coming into my space, putting your hands on my face, telling me I was beautiful. So full of compliments you were. I was sure that sweet home Alabama, only bread the best of the boys, but that’s just noise. You say you want to feel the thunder, but if you are close enough to hear it, then you’re close enough to be struck, and when it hits, you better pray for luck, because it may just burn you, and turn on you, and scorn you, I’m just warning you, you’ll be a wreck just thinking about it. |

Ahhh... human games. Sometimes makes one simply want to watch from the sidelines and avoid the tackle... But then again... would that be "truly living"...? A strong emote here. -MVS You CAN make a difference: |

Terrina, Enjoyed. "You say you want to feel the thunder, but if you are close enough to hear it, then you’re close enough to be struck," BTW Professor Gloom rewrote the poem for "your reading" after I responded on my post to you in reference to his poem. Please check it out. It is entitled Haiku on Icy Beach, 1-7-04. Sadelite |
