Base Logic [RUI] - The Wellbutrin Song ©2004 C.G. Ward thus it begins, b a c k t h e b r a i n . . . I hear -- voices calling out the quote: "chemically imbalanced." ~off yer' rocker boyo, just bloody / … / loony!~ a technical definition, that, - you know - leading to an acronymatic descriptive, a summary for the cure to mental cancers. - inhibit the reuptake - RUI, RUI, RUI. defined, delimited, dismissed. filed away in the sanitized safety of a statistical ocean; sanity bookmarked, dog-tagged, and forgotten… RUI, RUI, RUI. ---------------------- ---------------------- world's gone awry, m'friend. betcha Orson Wells couldn't have scripted better than your busted cerebellum. ---------------------- ---------------------- so, wherin lies the balance of a broken mind a broken life a broken - heart? and, can you find a way to inhibit that? at the least, unihibit my reuptake so I can live in a made up world without this empty soul. RUI, RUI, Ru… |

Having a daughter who is chemically imbalanced and suffers from Bipolar syndrome... this made more sense than you may ever know. The chant of RUI RUI RUI... lent well to your poem. Thank you Christopher. |

GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ Christopher... I'm gonna have to come back to this one. For now it's all I can do to get the mantra of RUI RUI RUI outta my head. Thanks alot. ("This IS on the money" argues one of the voices in serenity's head...) but for now? it's enough to know that Martha Stewart just demonstrated T'ai Chi on the tube, and if Martha is in search of serenity? I'm OUTTA here. brb. Gonna raise the drawbridge. "I told ya when I met you I was crazy-- cry for us all, Beauty. Cry for Eddie in the corner thinking he's nobody-- and Jack behind his Joker and stone-cold Grace behind her fan and me in my frightened silence thinking I don't understand..." Joni Mitchell People's Parties sigh. Now who's crazy? Much Enjoyed. |

This was great. I've read it and re read it, and I'm convinced that we were made for each other. |

Sanity... Unbalanced... hmmm... I often wonder if the ones labeled such are really just the ones trying to making sense of the world... I have my days as well... And the ones that have been given the "label" always make more sense to me.. Can you tell I enjoyed this muchly? "if you won't let me fall for you |

But Welbutrin doesn't have sexual side effects! Your poem was great, Christopher. |

You know Chris, this I found so sad, because it was all too true. We chant, SSRI up here for a better life through chemicals, and yes it does increase the quality of life for those depressed or with mood disorders, but it does indeed somehow empty the soul eventually, until the next miracle comes along in a vicious cycle. Too bad there was not a meter for these drugs to know when enough is more than enough. |

This is one of your best. Because you dare to open up yourself to expose what most people think should be hidden. You are a wonderful guy...talented..charming(!) and kind. There is no imbalance in your heart! |

I'm back. Back to the top with this, C. I'd love to see you do a series--you quite deftly illustrated the pain of a misunderstood condition without tugging emotional triggers or resorting to cliche'. I confess I was a little startled too, because knowing you as a "level" sorta guy, the accuracy of this made me wonder...smile. More like this please? Excellent work. |

Thank you all for your feedback and appreciation. I appreciate that appreciation. I may be a "level" kinda guy (though i believe many might argue that label), but that doesn't mean i don't see, or understand. I doubt there's many in this world that have had a smooth ride the whole way through. we, all of us, at one time or another, slip into the darkness. as for a "series," k, i'd already considered something like that, but would be hesitant to say "yes, i will" as time is hard to come by these days. thank you, however, for the suggestion - you never know. husgs around. Unrelated of course, but I now have that little kids voice from "The Shining" repeating in my head, "R E D R U M". Serotonin...breakfast of champions!!! This poem could be a mantra for much of the population these days, huh?? Hope ya don't mind, I know a therapist who'd really appreciate your take on this, thought I'd send her a copy. Nice job on this C...as always!! |
