“How alone is alone?” the old man asked in fear
and as I couldn’t answer, I chose to disappear,
not completely, that’s unreal, but mostly more than less
to think, to dream, to contemplate, the state of loneliness.

I miss the most ‘bout everything I had once long before
like him walking through the door to me across the floor
the holding of my hand, a look that said he knows,
and the way he cuddled up close to my very soul.

Alone, a state existing even though we do not know,
has settled comfortably in the corners of a home
but a soul needs company to join again in bliss
and experience again what sadly now is missed.

I’m more alone together with a stranger for a mate
than alone without a lover or a passing casual date
for alone I have the freedom to hope, to dream, to feel,
tomorrow brings a better view than what today I see.

But only when I join heart, body, mind and soul
can I forever say I’m not alone at home
and only when you enter my eternal sphere
can two together claim the absence of all fear.

The old man bowed his head and said he didn’t know
alone cannot exist when you know you have a soul
but within the sphere, behind the veil, and he didn’t wait to see,
two lovers sit and laugh at how simple life can be!

Helen

You gave me much to ponder, as usual, with this thought filled poem.  Thank you.

The words play almost perfectly in this poem. Good read--plus I love the subject matter! Everyone gets in these alone moods sometimes but we always have to see the light around the corner!

Thank you all so much for reading and commenting.  I'm glad you enjoyed it and found something there to think about.  Now, what's next?  I think maybe soon I would have covered just about every emotion, mood, or condition of a human being but then again perhaps not. We are such complex creatures.
