The wind wakes me with moaning
Down the darkness of the driveway
I can hear it take the trash can
And make it into cymbals

I can smell the smoke of morning
From the sleepy waking houses
And I hear the bushes talking
To the naked trees while dancing

And I want to walk away then
Into the breast of darkness
And wrap myself in whispers
From the leaves upon the sidewalk

I have wondered at the mystery
Of the quiet breath of dreaming
Where it takes me past my pillow
Into slanted mystic meaning

And I toss my rumpled feelings
Back and forth I hear them shatter
They are building up a mountain
That I’ll have to climb by morning

And I feel the lies I’ve spoken
And I know the signs are broken
Yet I move within my memory
Like a sleepy child awakened

And I want to travel slower
And I want to go then faster
So I can’t find all my meaning
It is so far until the daylight

Then I see the creep of fingers
Weaving light across the carpet
And it’s the music that I know
Will take me home

Martie...the beauty of this is beyond compare...
perhaps only for me, because you re-awakened
a winter morning from my long-ago...
when in the breast of winter,
I went outside to see my dog,
and ice had covered his waterbowl...

and you know how, in the lowlands, ice
is hard to come by...

but you also brought back a morning smell...

there is a difference, when there is a lot
of moisture in the air, when you live just
a few miles from the Pacific...

enough said.  Library time.  Thank you for
this thrill...

Beautiful dear Martie!
Love these pieces...and together they shall stay in my library.
All the best to you and yours in 2004.

I found there lives within me,

THIS is magnificent!

...and this part went straight to the bone:

"I have wondered at the mystery
Of the quiet breath of dreaming
Where it takes me past my pillow
Into slanted mystic meaning"

You leave me humble and speechless.

Martie
I can tell when I have read an excellent poem, because I see and feel the same thing that the poet does, in this one, the wind, the sounds, the scents in the air.....All I can say is that this poem allowed me to stand beside you in an intimate manner
.....thank you for letting me lean in close and see the world through the eyes of your poetry.

I continue to be mesmerized and lost in the worlds you create, Martie.

On second thought, they are not worlds you create - they are the worlds we all live in but you are able to see them in a different light....and we are better for it.

Once again, beautiful writing...

Perfection, Martie. I know someone if here, would have loved and appreciated each and every thought of yours.
I must go and read the rest, when my mind is less fuzzy and can hold all the images.

So pleasant to read you.

Happy New Year

I dont know which I loved more...the imagery or the assonance and pace of this...what a treat this is to read aloud...and only you could turn trash cans to symbols
Me thinks Marties poetry is the music turning the corner.

SO? this says part 11... does that mean there
are more than the one posted in 24????

Woohoo Martie...this is wonderful. Love it dear friend. Thank-you so much for this pleasant giftm this morning...and thank you for the little e-mail. I am pleased that I was missed. Sorry...I suppose I should have warned people I was going to Arkansas for Christmas. I brought everyone back a poem of what Christmas 2003 gave to me. Hope you like it.

You are quality.

Your work is some of the best that reaches this group, and this poem is one of your best. It's a blessing to read poetry like this.

Your words weave a vision of past and present flowing too fast to capture. I feel emotions tumble over each other like snowflakes falling from the sky....A weave that can be read over and over again continually giving insight into you and oneself....Magnificent....

Do you recall our conversation yesterday? When we discussed certains ways and words  for replying to poetry that absolutely moves us? but can't?

That is what I want to do here, but am unable to..so I'l lsave it for when I see you on MSN eh?

Fantastic Martie
