Midnight Walk in Battle Creek Night and darkness shadowed in as heavy gray clouds felt of snow quiet is the air, and thin, awaiting Mother Nature’s show O the beauty of a night first born, a Michigan town, Battle Creek smells of grape nuts in early morn for these are memories I would keep. Company had come by that night, good times were had by all, then it soon chimed, 'twas midnight and snow had begun to fall Twenty miles east of Kalamazoo Battle Creek quietly resides, Kalamazoo has great winds, true, off Michigan’s great lake side Battle Creek is a different town, as quiet reigns over the snow, instead of drifts and shifting hills the white just chooses to grow. Midnight walks on streets of white a wondrous treat in its own, this is when magic begins, and why we believe in cherrystones. Did you know that snow has song? It's heard when winds don’t blow, crystalline tinkling is taken to heart and snow fairies softly glow ~ I know for we stood, quiet, still, heard chiming tings softly surround no one spoke, but shyly descried as snow came twinkling down. O Battle Creek of Michigan, someday I’ll come to visit again. ©Karilea Rilling Jungel 29 September, 2000 revised 15 December 2003 Photograph courtesy of PiP |

Come to Washington, DC and write about it, too, Karilea. Your poem was beautiful. |

Love this. Been to Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. Home may be Iowa now...but I was born in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada and I cut through Michigan on those rare visits back to see family and friends. You paint the images very well Sunshine. Wonderfully done. Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history! |

Your descriptive powers are only surpassed by the beauty in which you use them. Eric |

And now you made me homesick for the States again. Oh dear how I miss the train ride to Florida and all the places I visited, beautiful Pensylvania, I still envy Nan, living so close to the ocean. I know, I have to get back there before my time's up. Such a beautiful write Karilea. Titia Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |
