in the shadows

When I was really poor,
stealing milk from doorsteps
filching food to eat,
I used to dream
of living without cares,
I thought love
somehow would come in time,
a partner I would think as mine
and I wouldn't always have to look
over my shoulder.

Now I am a great deal older,
and it's true
I've loved a few,
and perhaps among the dead
there was a partner.

I tell you honestly
I've learned a lot this time around;
I don't think
I'll make the same mistakes again;
I know it's in the nature of my soul
that I am drawn to war,
despite the karmic pitfalls
for which I've yet to make amends,
but I've come to think
it's for the purpose
of seeing that it finally ends.

Life has a meaning,
and it's simple.
We exist to learn
and by that learning
we may grow,
and by that growing
we may come to know,
and by that knowing
we may learn
enough to satisfy
the greatest curiosity,
the pure simplicity
of understanding,
and then,
you see,
when that is done
we're free.

...I'm in the knowing stage...

I really love these lines:
I know it's in the nature of my soul
that I am drawn to war,
despite the karmic pitfalls
for which I've yet to make amends,
but I've come to think
it's for the purpose
of seeing that it finally ends.

Keeping this one.   ~K~

And here's hoping your journey is wealthy in knowledge that does not bring you back to pain.

Icebox,

I'm sorry you had to deal with all that pain. I hope things get a little better for you now.

*hugs*

Kudos for taking on 'the meaning of life'. I've never had the courage to do that all at once.  I kinda increment-it along, I guess. And where's the bit about sitting in front of the TV and scarfing nachos?  That ought to be in there somewhere.

It is good then that I am so curious.  Hug!

What seems to be fate can be a lifelong pattern of yielding to what may be no more than infatuation -- and more damaging than helpful in the long run. The critical difference is in knowing which, and having the strength to follow that knowing.

A sail is useless and even harmful without a keel and rudder; curiosity is pointless or worse without discernment...and choice.

For instance, if you're in a restaurant with someone you hope you have a future with, and the inevitable hottie walks by...do you let your eyes wander and your date think less or you, or manage to keep them pointed in her direction? Curiosity, discernment, choice.

This poem gave me even more to think about this time around than it did the first time I saw it.

boiled down like this is does seem simple.. it is the lessons we learn that are sometimes complex or seem so to us. Some we learn early and many are hard... some we deny this time round...

always enjoy reading you... and always go away thinking about the past.. the present.. try to leave the future alone right now, bt am not always able to do that.
