Last night she came a calling in the gloam of nighttime's falling, Softly calling out my name in the gloaming as she came, Calling, calling, calling, calling, softly calling out my name, In the falling, falling, falling, in the falling in the gloaming as she came. On the winds of eventide, then she lay down by my side, lightly kissing on my brow as she whispered her avow, Kissing, kissing, kissing, kissing lightly kissing on my brow, As she whispered, whispered, whispered, as she whispered her avow, She pledged her love forevermore, ever, ever, evermore, she pledged her love forevermore lightly kissing, kissing, kissing, lightly kissing as she pledged forevermore. But then the break of dawn and my goddess she was gone, In the glow of sun's first rise, She had fled before my eyes, Fleeing, fleeing, fleeing, in the glow of sun's first rise, Glowing, glowing, glowing glowing came the break of dawn, Fleeing in the glowing came the dawn. Forevermore means nevermore, as fled my goddess Terpsichore, She had come to me a calling in the gloam of nighttime's falling, then she lay down by my side in the calm of eventide, lightly kissing on my brow as she whispered her avow, Could I have been dreaming, as the sun's first light was streaming, into my chamber's bare, Could I have dreamed that she was there, Then I heard her whispered calling, The same as in night's falling, Except that she was fleeing, Fleeing, fleeing, fleeing, As she heeded not by calling, As I called into the dawn, But alas she now was gone, ever, ever, evermore means never, never, nevermore, with the coming, coming, coming, with the coming of the dawn, Goddess Terpsichore is gone, in the glowing she is fleeing, she is gone. Forevermore means nevermore, I remember trying to sleep in Richmond, VA at a poet's meet, where the tv stations played Poe's stories (The tell tale heart was one) and I swear I heard a knock knock knocking at my door... of course I didn't answer M |

I am quite certain that Edgar Alan Poe would ask no apologies of you, Dear Tim! A bold, rich write full of energy and passion! EA--without the P |

Tim, I am sure Poe would love this. I am a high school computer lab instructor, and the juniors are studying Poe right now. Nothing make me happier (although judging by facial expressions, I think some of them are not as thrilled). I was helping a student find some information about Poe and, as it was the day before Halloween, I pulled up, "The Raven" and left it upon my PC screen all day! Can you tell? I love Poe...and your poem! Patricia |
