* How Great These Gifts *~

He gave us valuable gifts, but there’s no box to hold,
But each one's more precious than a bounty of gold.
First, were two ears to hear all sound around,
In the air above us, and below the ground.

The buzz of a bumblebee, the sound of the sea,
Laughter and tears shared by you and me.
The rustle of reeds, the chirp of a bird,
Words of love that we’ve so often heard.

He gave us a nose so we could inhale,
Distinguishing fresh from that which is stale.
Remember the scent just after the rain?
Or that peppermint smell of a candy cane?

The smell of a loved one, a child we hold dear,
So precious to me, I hold those so near.
Remember that turkey dinner that smelled oh so good?
Fresh cut grass, or the scent of chopped wood?

Two eyes were given to us, such a wondrous thing!
To experience seasons, fall, winter, summer and spring.
Witnessing decay and death, birth of a new born child,
Rainbows, mountains, seas, and forests grown wild.

The sense of touch, how great that one does feel.
As I hold in my hand something that’s real.
A newborn chick, my granddaughter’s hair,
Pie crust I’m making for a pie with care.

To experience a loved one’s hand in mine,
That is a touch that is simply divine.
The textures of all things on earth and in space,
Created for touching by his holy grace.

He gave us a voice so that we could speak up or sing,
Praises of his love, or just some comfort to bring.
Straight from a heart, we all whisper or love,
Or a humble prayer to this great God up above.

I am thankful each day for the gifts he gave me,
Hearing, taste, smell, mobility, and the ability to see,
My sense of touch, my voice, heart and soul,
God created a perfect being, so complete and whole.

There’s not a day that goes that I don’t stop and pray
Thankful for family, friends, and for living one more day.

Try to make time to listen to
someone who talks from their heart.

Carpe' Diem

When I have problems with my sense of hearing, I realize even more how precious it is to me.  If I worry, I worry about going blind, as well.  To not be able to read my precious poets here in Passions...would be a tremendous loss.  Sometimes I worry about arthritis, and know that there are computers where we can talk to our machines, and pass along our thoughts.  I could worry myself into a box...but He keeps opening the lid, and says "Fear not" so I know that if something ever happens that I should fear a time that I might lose a sense, I know that God will provide in other ways.

Looks like I got on a soap box, in my small way of saying "thank you Sharon" for opening up everyone's heart.

I hope and pray, I never reach a point that I feel like there is nothing for me to learn...to hear and see, and to speak as well.

He gave us valuable gifts, but there’s no box to hold,
But each one s more precious than a bounty of gold.
First, were two ears to hear all sound around,
In the air above us, and below the ground.

An awesome write filled with the awareness of humbleness and the greatness of what we sometimes can't see or won't see.

Hugs and thank you for sharing...also, Noah's picture is so precious....very fitting for your loving poem...thank you for sharing, what a way to start a Monday Morning

Hi Sharon ... there is so much to see and hear each day and night. I sit and read the paper every morning to learn at least one new thing. I pray the day never comes that I am gripped with fear and it leaves me emotionally and physically paralyzed. As long as I hold onto my faith, I know God will be with me, continually giving me His gifts.

Bless you for writing such a touching and remarkable poem. You are truly a gifted and special lady.
Luvs and hugs, Marti

It is through these gifts we all become who we are, and are the perfect beings we will become.  I am so blessed to know so many wonderful people, and thank you kindly.

I am so sorry for having not gotten back to this and thanked you - the site went down - my memory is awful and I forgot I even wrote it, until I saw it there LOL.  Thank you and if even one person gave thanks then I did my job

Found ya.

and very glad I did.

I like your take on what I perceive to be an interpretation of the gifts of "talents" (now we know it was mean as money, but how much more interesting if you choose to read that "talent" as our modern day meaning, huh?

love you gracious lady! You do indeed multiply your talents daily.

I am really very happy you all read this one, and I do hope to submit it to the main site (when it opens) as I think after the many tradegies these last few years, we really have to be thankful for the basics again, and cherish them.  Thank you kindly everyone, and I mean that from my heart.

Sharon that was one of the most prayer-full, grace-full, thank-full poems that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It is all-encompassing and eloquently expressed!

God bless you and your family!
