Our Congress has a chaplain, do you wonder why he's there?
And why our governmental sessions always start with prayer?
If they believe God's help is needed there, each and every day,
How come our public schools aren't allowed to pray?
Our values now are going to hell, by the liberal few,
Those that think God has no use, haven't been to school.

Here's a touchy subject.  However, prayer is allowed in school, but not required.  It cannot be.  The bill of rights is the bill of rights and it must be upheld in all areas, not just the ones we like.  If we make exception on this, then we must be open to making exception in other ammendments.  The intricacies could be endless on the first ammendment alone.  Nice write though.

Exactomondo! You must be right! Perhaps our elected officials did not attend school! ~ and by some of the decisions that have been made, that has been quite apparent!

Sad but witty commentary on the state of affairs! Freedom of choice seems to have gone bye-bye!

Great to see you back at doing what you do so well, Dear Toe! Provoking thought in a most entertaining manner!

Being required to pray and not being allowed to do so are totally different things... It can't be forced... neither should it be banished.

It's great to see you posting... and I really like this! *S*

AND there are many kinds of school, most of which don't even have bells and blackboards.... it's true in all of them.

....since God, prayer, "One Nation Under God"..etc has been deleted, and a million other things they've done to take away from God and morality....alot of abnormal things are protrayed as a "norm"..(homosexuality, violence, poor guy was on drugs or drunk and didn't know what they were doing, pedophile priests for instance)..and these are not normal...it's a sad perversion, and I feel sorry for folks with problems like this...but it's not normal....Normal today is perceived as "any thing goes"....that's sad.....I'm not a religious fanatic...in fact, the only reason for this poem is my daughter called, told me she was reprimanded at school for praying, she told her "reprimander" that she has the right to pray, just as those who don't want to don't have to, or, for that matter, don't have to listen....you know...those "minorities?"....majority rule doesn't exist anymore as I'm sure you know...at any rate...she told this person that if they had a problem, to call her father...(me)...and suggested they "pray" before they do call......

I agree about prayer being needed (choice of course whether to participate)

Toe,
Who knows if your praying or not if you keep it to yourself. Glad to see you back.

Guess they are going to come up with something to replace "In God We Trust" on the money and there is supposedly an effort to have crosses removed from all federal property. Where they gonna put all the ones from Arlington??

With you 100%, Toe....and then some.

Toe...
that is a standard line in our house too, "if they don't like it, tell them to call your dad...or your mom...." that usually stops it right there. I got my family t-shirts that have the pledge with 'one nation under God' on it, and in my son's school, they still say that. loved this

I have wondered exactly that. I've wondered a lot of other things too, but that one particularly gets to me. It seems obvious beyond any possibility of contradiction that acknowledgement of a religion is not declaring a state religion, and allowing the use of governmental branches and agencies for attacks on a religion is not neutrality. Yet we do the opposite, and we allow the covert and overt attacks.

Well said, Toerag!

I SO agree with you.
I carry my Bible to school everyday, and (I don't go to school through lunch time anymore) I used to pray there before I ate. The other kids always hassled me alot about it.. and some of the teachers started to, but quickly learned I wasn't someone to mess with in that regard.
We say God bless America... but its time for America to bless God.

Love the write.
