I thought that I knew best. They told me that they'd take you and care for you as their own. They said that they could help you and keep you safe and well. I thought that I knew best. The scars on your arms, the look in your eyes terrified me. I wanted you to have better, you convinced yourself that you deserved nothing after all that you had done. Your worst sin was letting people get what they want. I thought that I knew best. Your fear of being loved showed me a darker, hidden side. You refuse to show me more. It's hard for you to understand how I feel. I see more than you think. I see what is good, that which you ignore. I thought that I knew best. They beat you, bruised you, tattered you, but not beyond repair. They took your to your braking point because it made them feel empowered, your tears gave them strength. I thought that I knew best. The end in coming, ushered in by better days. Now is not the time to stop trying. Don't give in. Draw strength from your past, know that you have survived it, know that you will continue to survive. Don't give in now, because I love you. I need you and will be there for you so long as I live. Please don't give in now. |
