Wild Bird Flying See him fly, fly in the cage, the wingtips beaten raw, feathers shattered on the wires. They could never carry him now but still he flies, flies, breast grinding the drawn steel, head turned back, eyes that stare in sightless horror, confined, unconfinable. Will will him to stop, accept the boundary; be the spider that would wind hiis spirit in steel webs, but he will only fly, fly, blast the grid with remnants of himself, a last flailing migration into what he will be now: dead, or if he fails, less than dead, accustomed. |

Some creatures should never be chained or caged... their beauty is dependent on their freedom... You've painted a stunning portrait of a breaking spirit. dead, or if he fails, less than dead, accustomed. And so much less than he should be... This is sheer excellence in writing... but breaks my heart to read the truth of it. |

Jamie...Is it the cage itself I wonder, or just the idea that there is no way you can fly. Very poignant poem, my friend. Made me think of all my birds and wonder if they are happy. |

Good stuff, here, Jamie! Very powerful with much insight. In some ways we are all that bird. Thanks, Larry |
