Jimmy Buffett Kinda' Life
(Originally Titled "Danzons and Cha-Chas)
By: Noah Eaton
5/12/03

Driving south of Miami
Where the sun feels pristine
All along U.S 1
I could see the waters swelling
And I was thinking
About those nights we shared
Parasailing along the coastline
Breathing the crisp sunrise air

I pulled into Key Largo
Off the shore I saw the blue marlin
Savored the vision with a slice of key lime pie
At Seven Miles Grill across the bridge
In front of my bow
I saw the dolphins come out to play
And here in these azure shadows
I thought about the obligation I should have made

Well, down here the weather is gorgeous
And I’m thinking it all over
Living this Jimmy Buffett kinda life
And all the while keeping sober
Sitting here beside the beachside
With the swirling fans rotating...
...A nephew of a nephew of a sailor
Living life on the Keys...

Spent half the day,
driving down the Overseas Highway
And out on Marathon
I think I saw Ernest Hemingway
Ordering a 10 cent gin
Down at ole’ Sloppy Joes saloon
Six-toed felines
Keeping him company every lazy afternoon

Saw some ladies playing danzons and cha-chas
Late that afternoon at Tennessee William’s theatre
With the Cuban drummers
Over a plate of crab quiche and conch fritters
Thought about boarding the African Queen
And taking her for a cruise
Fantasize with those movie stars
Play a deck of Hearts with Humphrey Bogart before I’m through

Well, down here the weather is gorgeous
And I’m thinking it all over
Living this Jimmy Buffett kinda life
And all the while keeping sober
Sitting here beside the beachside
With the swirling fans rotating...
...A nephew of a nephew of a sailor
Living life on the Keys...

Wish I could go fishing with Everett Fowler
Out on Marathon Key
Wish I could show him the sights and sounds
All along Duval Street
Where the loggerhead turtles
Up on the sandpiper’s lot
Sleep under blankets of topaz
On the back porch this balmy hotspot

Not a day goes by
Without me enjoying a Mallory Square Sunset
The merengue you hear at the Caribbean Club
And on Sombrero Beach the luck you bet
And fair voyage La Almiranta
She’s still floating somewhere under that Oceanic highway
Would you love to go sailing tonight
Cause I’ve so much being said but need you there to have the confidence to say...

And down here the weather is gorgeous
And I’m thinking it all over
Living this Jimmy Buffett kinda life
And all the while keeping sober
Sitting here beside the beachside
With the swirling fans rotating...
...A nephew of a nephew of a sailor
Living life on the Keys...

Yeah, I'm a nephew of a nephew of a sailor
living a Jimmy Buffett kina life on the Keys...

I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth
I can see the sun set and I perceive

***Live***

Reminds me of one particular harbour.

With all of our cunnin' and all of our running it's a wonder we all don't go insane.
Love these changes in attitude Noah~

It's nobody's fault, but it could be my fault...but I know, it's my own damn fault!

Noah, this post is so full of sights, and sounds, and smells, and emotion! I really felt as though I was there with you experiencing everything that you saw, heard, smelled and felt!

Loved the unbeat tempo and energy of this piece!

There's so much going on in this one, Noah. I really like it. Love the pictures, too, they added to the poem.
