With fall of night, precious reminiscences lay soft their fingers on my soul, As before me float visions of long agoes, of other days in backward roll. Hushes now the hum and stir of city’s bustle amid the wane of passing day ‘Mid vespered song of golden nightingale, as in defeat, day to night gives way. The solemn, mysterious silence of the gloaming folds like a velvet pall, Over nature’s bier of pale and lifeless day as moon and stars heed to evening’s call. I cross the wide and uncharted expanse of heaven’s high; sail endless seas In seek of homeward current, upon melancholy waves of distant memories. Adrift upon a tideless sea, no captain at the helm, I stand upon ship’s bow, Precious reminiscences, I gaze upon my yesterdays, I gaze upon anow.
