First born.... Blessing and curse, so heavy the burden cast upon shoulders still small, growing. Why, I ask? Why should the child walk the mile of a mentor’s shoes as insecurity drains the courage of life into the sewer’s swirl? When self condemnation is force fed by a silver spoon within the finger’s grasp of youth... Why then? The sand torn sphinx, ever present yet ominously silent. Standing alert to my trek through treacherous dunes as moods shift beneath blistered soles of a small soul. The din of silence deafening fragile ears. Consuming the hunger and thirst of a yearn for just a shouldered hand. Though never struck, the sting reddens a cheek, as a palm is turned away and shadows blend the night where storms swirl doubt and winds chill to the bone, as does a word of haste. Blessed be the child, first born... first burned. |

Now, you're speaking to a first born, sans silver spoon, but gifted of the love of two that both, individually, knew of their own hardships, and blessings, and worked in various ways to keep us from one, or the other, depending on their own perceptions. And from them, we learn our own perceptions, and in each case, generation by generation, we only hope to do better than those before us, and sometimes, we find ourselves going backwards... Well done, Sir...you got me to "spill"... |
