Breathing mind,
lungs full of despair,
thoughts of complacency
stagnating in time
nothing to dream about
having been driven back
to look forward to nothing,
alive but never seen
haunting appearance,
numbed with reality
disappearing in shame,
the oblivion of acceptance
that nothing can be gained
in futile steps of escape.

Shouting from that oblivion,
to free yourself from the
shackles of conformity
generating the wrath of those
that imprisoned the negativity
from scars that never healed,
tears that never dried,
feelings stung in immobility,
you crawl out of misery
scratching for every morsel
starving for recognition
being different enough
to shine for only a second
within your own identity
having gained success
with no one claiming it,
a heart fluttering in pride
beating on it’s own terms again.

This was wonderful, dark and deep and most important not on company time.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
