He came home that night
To find himself a hero.
All his strength now
Reduced down to zero.

He'd lost his only reason,
His will to draw a sword and fight,
The power of the champion within,
The power of his new light.

Yet all's not lost, you see;
He's truly a paladin,
And where his fighting powers fail,
His healing magic will always win.

So his innocence returns,
His demons now dead,
Battle scars and bruises,
Lumps covering his head.

Now he's tired of battle,
He wants to go home;
He wants to return
And read his mystic tomes.

And as he lays down his sword,
He picks up a book;
He opens the pages
And takes a good look.

His past has returned
In the words on each page,
And he's still his own hero,
A powerful mage.

What is life without poetry and adventure?
"Little sister" is just another way of saying "Guardian Angel"!

Brings back memories of D&D -- but I never could decide whether to be a player or a DM...  Nice write.
