Prelude to a Kiss

Dug in the soil today,
in the little garden I have out back –
on my knees there,
letting the dirt run through my fingers . . .
I missed you –
beside me, on the left,
where you always knelt when we worked the ground,
together,
playfully tangling our fingers . . .
prelude to a kiss.

Funny –
I want you more right now
than I ever had,
I’d hug you,
I’d kiss you,
I would meld our bodies right there,
on the ground
where our hands played in the soil.
I would love you
as you've never known it,
may never know it again,
but will always remember.

But the soil, the garden, is out back,
and I’m sitting here in front of the t.v.,
remembering,
feeling the way I want you,
wishing I could speed up the evening,
so I could turn out the lights,
and show you a real,
prelude to a kiss.
