Ode to Robert Frost's Ghost

He troubles my mind, as I lie awake
at night. Mumbling tenderly the things
I would scribe, and I lend an ear unto
his voice asking, "Are you corporeal?"
I know he passed on one year before I
was born, and I must unburden myself
and acknowledge there are instances when
I speculate as to if his soul might
have been reincarnated in me, but
that is nonsensical supposition.
I am solely a wannabe, a mere
pain-racked emaciated artist, and
he was metrical genius incarnate.
Yet I feel kindred in spirit somehow
to what his memory and legacy
represents. Was I conferred this life span
merely so that I might pick up where he
left off? No, that can not be for I do
not give credence to such phenomenon.
I have a singular identity
whether or not I like it, and my words
are certainly my own. Yet in the night
I lean back speechlessly in my armchair,
reading by the brilliance of a single
lamp his stanzas, and I think to myself,
"This verse is something I might too author
if only I was this skillful." Alas
I am not. So I sit gripping the words of Robert
Frost in my fingers, spellbound by the things
he portrays so eloquently, and I
fantasize a little of being him.
I am swept into the maelstrom of time
and space and conveyed to San Francisco
in the year eighteen seventy-five when
he was born. Through his accomplishments I
delight in those days of yore and then I
close my optic receivers and let his
voice come once again. And this time when he
whispers the words which I should chronicle
I listen, but being a distinctive
soul I beg his forgiveness and make them
my own. But still I would acknowledge the
immortal gift he has given to me,
and so with this poem I honor his ghost.

Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history!

Kevin, this is a wonderful tribute to a great writer, and I could see you sitting there in that stark white light, mesmerized by his words, wondering why you didn't think of them? But your words are also brilliant, my friend, and someday, maybe a man will be sitting in his easy chair, marveling at the words you have written, wondering how he could even think that he could write as well as you, speaking these same thoughts of amazement and respect. You are a poet, my friend, and you do it well.

Thank you also, for being so positive about my work too, I was actually very surprised to see my work got more than one or two comments, I have posted probably 25 or so poems here, and for some reason, I get one to two comments and then they disappear. But on the other hand, I see you are becoming so successful, and that makes me very happy, you are doing a great job here!

I think alot of us huge Robert Frost fans feel the same way. I know I do, and was completely surprised someone else was able to put down my own feelings on paper (although you did it much better than I ever could )

I hope Edder sees this. I think he would like this alot.

I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.

EV:
An unusual poem about one of poetries greatest heroes. Like Emerson, Frost encouraged personal creativity in all of us...They wanted to hear what we had to say.
I think both would have liked this poem..
They will live on as long as we remember them in poems like this........ice/ford

The letter you will find me subscript to
Is neither alpha, eta, nor omega,
But upsilon which is the Greek for you."

Thank you so much for this beautiful write, two poet's hearts shine through the words.
Whether or not you believe in reincarnation,
life matter never truly disappears, and who knows where the words go when they last leave the lips and soul?
As I love poetic tributes, this ode will find a comfortable place in my library, Kevin. Well done
