Of Wheat and Water

You sit sculptured hand on hip
balancing diadem you raise from your forehead

You are like the old Oak
durable and bearing
your lobed ears hang down like its leaves
listening
your eyes slit the way
for those that have wanted the fruit of you.

You smoke your pipe into the damp warm
blowing signals of "this land is still mine".

You must’ve traveled centuries old man
purely by foot
watching the coming and goings of families
that carried fish over their shoulders
the crops on their heads.

The city is now a fist-full of fumes
the sidewalk a littler-bin.

Georgetown peddles by you Sir

your feet no longer move
you are grey like dried clay
and your past seeps through the cracks.

I see you making bread with your hands:

You stand out from all
you have made what is yours

this is viewed through your eyes

and you will live on.

fate is not just
whose cooking  smells good
but which way the wind blows

(Ani DiFranco)

of wheat and water?

I see flat pita bread and the eyes of The Green Man peeking between the leaves of a mighty rowan..

this reminded me of my brother, and you are always a gentle and graceful journey of a read.

But that's why I call you "Luscious."

(okay...it's PART of the reason-- )

love ya lady lusciousness.

Thank you for the through bleak historical
walk.  It saddens me.   The good thing is that people like you honor their past and presence.

oh wow...
I knew people could pain with words, but you painted and told a whole story, with just these few lines.
Very well done, I love it.

Well my dear...obviously your journey reached you yes? Sometimes the places we go - they make impacts, leave impressions. I don't know - does such a journey leave us feeling smaller? Or larger for having seen another place in this small earth...

I have to say, (yet again?), your poetry - leaps and bounds..

glad you're home, talk soon..

Hey Gorgeous,
"flat pita bread and eyes of The Green Man peeking" there's a poem in that ey?

Thanks  for the "graceful" and "gentle" You know how to make this little dark angel smile.

miss you love ya back.

Hi Martie, thank you and I wish I had captured him with my digital camera.

Noah, thanks for your sweet reply, may light and love always shine upon you too dear.

Bello, thanks for the "amazing"

Passing Shadows, why thank you!

Sadelite, he left such an impression over me, I saw him only a few days into our holiday and from that moment he did not leave my mind.

Hey Sunshinygirl, yes I can only imagine the stories he may have told throughout his life, I would've loved to have sat with him and just listened. Though he told me much in 15 seconds of standing still in traffic.
Glad you enjoyed m'lady

Alyssa glad you love it and thank you for your lovely reply.

Sweet Butterfly,

Thanks for the "leaps"  and "bounds" honey.

James, glad to have you join us m'friend. Thank you so much for your lovely reply.

Sue, thanks littleone

Vandana, glad you enjoyed, thanks for stopping by.

One of the best lines I've read in a very long time. Great poem B-Roo--love it.

Hi, Maree! Unfortunately, I see similarities between your character and me! LOL! You paint a very vivid picture here and I relate with him-and you-very well. You are an excellent writer, Maree

Maree, it's amazing what we can  see  when  someone
or  something  moves us enough to really  look.
Hugs to you, sweet lady
